Seeming Reality

Elation built upon the foundation
of four decades of self-discovery
Where Fear ruled for so long
and now Courage thrives
When Ignorance was considered bliss
and now Truth is Accepted
With Self-Indulgence filling voids
and Gratitude at last holds sway.

Melancholy falls like droplets
of gray and guilted gloom
Triggered by a thousand cracks
Schedules broken like glass
Tugged upon like frayed rope
Separation anxiety sets in
Tickling the back of the mind
Loneliness finds its grip

Thoughts flood forth ferociously
as the mental levee breaks
Body image warped in a way
that resembles a carnival mirror
Old wounds torn open as old Love
resurfaces from the dark abyss
Children now fully grown spread
wings like eagles and fly far away

And here I remain
With thoughts once conquered
Clinging to memories of elation
Purpose seeming to fade
into the deep encroaching fog
where the mind seems normal
Unlike the painted clarity
Of this seeming reality

  1. Sometimes we must lose ourselves to find ourselves, seeing the distortions for what they are: smoke and mirrors. ❤️
