Reflect Upon the Children

Written after a conversation with a friend whose daughter wished she had a more “normal” mother. I then examined my own relationship with my children and saw how much of me was reflected in them and vice versa.

Reflect upon the children
Do you see it in their eyes?
Is it none of your wisdom?
Is it all of your lies?

Reflect upon the children
Do you feel all of their pain?
Have you blamed it on another?
Have you given in to shame?

Reflect upon the children
Are you hearing what they’re saying?
Will you wallow in false pride?
Will you rise to their portraying?

Reflect upon the children
If you haven’t, you’re in denial
Family suffering in your sin
Family darkens all the while

Reflect upon the children
Their beauty is within you
Radiant and ever healing
Radiant, if you choose to.
